Auto Send (Sound Show) *

With Auto Send (Sound Show) you can:

zap through your Korg Z1 internal and memory card banks (as copied on the PC) to find the particular sounding patch that you want

pick out particular types of patches with the Super Find tool and then check out all your bass, lead, piano etc patches back to back

zap through new banks (eg banks that you have downloaded, or created using the random function) without overwriting any of the Korg Z1 internal banks

try out each patch in turn without having to press any Z1 buttons. No need to repeatedly press the number buttons or + or - buttons

save wear and tear on your Korg Z1 buttons and make the Korg Z1 last longer and perform better

use sound show mode to listen to each patch without having to press any buttons or play any keys on the Z1. Completely automatic

highlight patches as they are played, to form a new selection. (You can use all the Bank Editor functions on this new selection, including Insert First, Sort by...., Extract to Files etc)

play back your highlighted selections, and increase the playback time so you can check out your highlighted patches more fully

speed up patch editing. It can save a lot of time later if you start with a sound that is closest to the one you want

speed up patch creation. If you are using the random function to progressively develop a new sound, you can quickly try out a few test patches from a new random bank instead of sending the whole bank

The Auto Send function works by sending all selected patches in turn to the Korg Z1's edit buffer. The interval can be varied between 3 and 30 seconds. You can also choose:

Arpeggiator (On, Off or As Patch)

Pattern (Preset 1 to 5, User 1-1 to 3-5 or As Patch)

Chord Sequence (Fixed, Chromatic, Major 4, Major 5, Major-minor 4, Major-minor relative, Major-minor random)

With the Arpeggiator Off setting, patches can be tried out on the Z1 keyboard as they are sent. With the Arpeggiator On, you can hear a Sound Show of all the selected patches without any buttons or keys being pressed on the Korg Z1.

The Pattern and Chord Sequence settings give plenty of variety to the Sound Show.

The single-key Mark option enables you to highlight particular patches that you like, without interrupting the Sound Show. There is a Reselect option, to make a new selection from these highlighted patches. There is also a single-key Pause option.

Bank: Find Patches (Super Find) *

There is a powerful new Find tool which enables a variety of searches to be made by patch name (eg Last part starts with bas) and by patch type (eg Filt1 is LPF). In this example, only the letters bas would need to be typed. All other parameters are in preset drop-down lists.

The new Find box (below) has been kept small, to make it easier to see the results of the search.

Clicking on the main Find button will do a standard search. Clicking on the left-hand button <F will do a search within the results of the previous search. Clicking on the right-hand button F> will add the results of the new search to the results of the previous search.

The Switch button reverses the results of a search.

This combination of controls enables a variety of boolean-type searches to be made easily. It also allows you to add a search to a hand-picked selection.

Bank Undo (1) *

This new function can undo most Bank A and Bank B changes in the program. It will undo all the sort functions (entire bank or specific patches), rotate, insert first or last, swap first or last and import/export bank (moving patches between banks).

Bank Undo (2) **

The number of bank undo levels has been increased from 6 to 10.

Original selected patches now remain highlighted after the Undo operation. This is very handy if you have hand-picked a number of patches to move and then change your mind. Bank Undo will not only put the patches back to their original position, but the patches will remain highlighted (selected) for you to pick some other option.

Extract Banks *

When All Data, All Program or All Multi are loaded from disk or received from the Korg Z1 you can now extract the banks they contain directly into the Korg Z1 Editor, as well as sending the loaded data to the Z1 or saving the received data on the PC.

Import to Bank (Bulk Import) *

This new feature allows you to select any or all of the patch files in a folder on the PC and put them directly in the program's bank A or B.

Files are selected using a standard file selection box, which includes the normal multiple and block selections. You then select the starting patch where you want the imported patches to go and click the Import key. All the files are then loaded into the bank automatically.

The Import to Bank tool will check all files, and ignore those that are not Korg Z1 patch files.

The Import to Bank tool is designed to directly replace a sequence of patches starting with the bank patch you select. However, it is also possible in a single operation to directly replace a number of separate patches dotted around a bank, leaving all other bank patches unchanged. To find out more, see question 7 on the FAQ page.

The Import to Bank tool can be used in conjunction with the existing bank function Extract To Files, giving you the fullest possible control of your patches and banks. These 2 functions can also be used to split an entire bank into 128 patch files, and merge 128 patch files into a new bank - removing the need for separate split and merge utilities.

Init Multi and Init Pattern **

Init Multi and Init Pattern are now pre-loaded at startup, as well as Init Patch, to make it easier to produce completely new multisets and patterns.

More Sort Options *

OSC2, FX2, Filt1 and Filt2 have been added to the options for sorting an entire bank or a group of patches.

Patch names: extra options *

Automatic naming of patch files includes an additional option for including the bank letter and patch number in the file name (eg a127). This can be handy if you have sorted a bank and want to preserve this same order (eg saving individual patch files using the Extract to Files tool which you might want to use later with the Import to Bank tool).

When the Quick Merge and Slow Merge utilities are used, patch names are automatically changed to show that they have been merged.

Request *

The program can already receive any of the following if you press the appropriate send buttons on the Korg Z1. With this new program option, you can also request any of the following without pressing any buttons on the Korg Z1:

current patch

bank A

bank B

current multiset

multibank A

multibank B

current arpeggiator pattern

arpeggiator bank

Show Remap *

This new feature displays the remap list produced by the function Create Remap. The program can show the list in different ways and it can be copied to a word-processor, spreadsheet or sequencer program that uses remaps or instrument lists.

This function also provides the quickest way to produce a single alphabetical list of all 256 bank A and B patches.

Sliders **

A slider control has been added for every patch and multiset parameter, so that parameter values can be changed quickly. The slider pops up when you click on the symbol to the right of the up/down arrows:

This is an extra control. The up/down arrows can still be used, especially for fine tuning. Right clicking the up/down arrows changes the value by 20. Handy shortcuts are still available, including double clicking the decode box (4.60 Hz above) to restore the loaded value.

Swap First *

Swap Last *

These functions allow you to put patches at the beginning or end of a bank without changing the position of other patches. Put First and Put Last have been renamed Insert First and Insert Last.

Up/down keys *

Parameter values can be incremented by 20 (or 10 or 5) by right clicking on the up and down arrows.

Minor Fixes (1) *

Text in decode boxes has been realigned. With some font settings the text had been partly obscured by the up and down arrows.

Graphic EG no longer reverts to text frame after using Quick Merge, Slow Merge or Copy (from Bank).

Selection boxes used in Settings have been simplified.

Minor Fixes (2) **

The Undo tool now works correctly with multiple bank operations. In version 1.5.184 there were occasional problems when switching between banks A and B and then using the Undo feature.

In versions 1.4.154 and 1.5.184 it was not possible to save or send multisets or patterns created from scratch unless a multiset or pattern had been loaded first. This has been rectified by preloading Init Multi and Init Pattern.

A problem with the 28-day start-up screen in one edition of the program, when "Run Program Now" button was clicked twice, has been fixed.
